20 Oct Community Matters: My thoughts.
The word became flesh…
I read this article titled, “We are not ok”, a few days ago and wanted to share my thoughts with you. Please note, that this is not for everyone, especially those who are emotionally or mentally weak at this time and overwhelmed.

It is however for others who need to make their kindness, gladness and hope – flesh (tangible). Please step outside your place of comfort, places where nothing extraordinary is demanded of you.
Step out and be your brothers’ and sisters’ keeper.
It’s as simple as reaching out, writing a note, place a phone call especially when you do not hear from someone in a while, kindly check up on them not to make a demand or castigate but to truly inquire about their well being.
Go beyond the ‘I am fine’…or good messages.
Ask about their family, siblings, spouses, children and parents.
Don’t let social media posts fool you…we only share our praise worthy moments.
When you haven’t seen (heard from) someone lately, perform a cursory check if you can.
In your conversations, establish a standard operating process of engagement when things are not going well. Ask what signals should I look for.
Ask how should I engage you to discuss deep things. Ask and please listen intently.
Consider these as well-
Take a walk
Grab lunch or coffee
Volunteer together
Seek out common grounds
Perhaps most importantly, let people know they truly matter. Tell them yourself!
Let them hear your words of affirmation.
Let them know you care.
Make the word, flesh!
